Have you ever heard God's call?

I think I just did.

Yesterday, as I was passing by our large bookshelves at home, a spine of a book with its golden font suddenly caught my attention. The book was the The Greatest Miracle in the World by Og Mandino. I got the book and inspected it. I discovered that it was just a photocopy of the book and somebody had it in hard bound. With further inspection, I found out that the photocopied book was first read by my grandmother and she is passing it on to my grandfather as a gift as stated by her love letter on the very first page.

Being familiar with Og Mandino as the author of The Greatest Salesman in the World, my interest in the book heightened and I began reading it. The book is just 98 pages long which is a short read for me but it took me about 8 hours to finish the book (i finished goblet of fire in less than 24 hours).
I was so engrossed reading it. It was as if the author was talking to me that's why I was rereading every page I found very significant.

To what I have read and found significant, I can summarize the whole book in three points.

1. In our modern time, God communicates to us through man or man's creation.
2. We should not live a life of living death and we should not settle for mediocrity when we know in our hearts that we can still do better.
3. Read the book in order to know the third point!!!

I have been touched by this book very greatly as for I was living a life of living death wherein I lose my sense of self-worth due to some very heart breaking happenings in my life. I was having creepy feelings as I was reading for it was accurately describing the life I'm having and my thoughts.

During this Holy Week, it is as if God and the whole world was conspiring in conveying to me a certain message - I can change the world and I must change the world.

It first started after watching the movie "Yes Man" wherein the central theme is to live life to the fullest which somehow uplifted my spirit.

Second is after watching the movie "Evan Almighty" wherein the central theme is changing the world which I have thought at that time as something just very nice.

Finally, after reading the book of Og Mandino which combines the two previous central themes. I see the book as a confirmation that God really is trying to tell me something. The book really had an impact on me especially after reading the lines "Why not try to change the world?", "There is always hope", and "Never, never, never give up". Though I really don't understand the two last lines (for some reasons and situations in my life), I suddenly remembered what a Jesuit priest had said in a Lenten Special I was watching earlier that if God is trying to tell you something that is beyond your comprehension but you still accept it because you trust Him then you will be rewarded greatly. Remembering that line from the priest so suddenly is I think another message from God.

Now, I will live life to what I want it, how I want to see myself, not bothering how other people would look at me.

I will perform a miracle.

Here I am in the library trying to study for my quiz in fluid mechanics however our school library is like the noisiest library in the world. I can't concentrate. It seems that mapuans are ignorant what a library is. Sigh..

The librarians don't even care about the noise generated by the students.. How will I ever get to study in this noise-filled place.

Me and my colleagues at mapua robotics have been designing and fabricating the MAC for quite a time already. We've been conceptualizing it for about 7 months now and yesterday we unveiled our first most efficient prototype.

The MAC started with an all wood body and evolved into a bomb disposing celebrity yesterday. Its media appeal was so great that I was literally blinded by all the flashes yesterday at glorietta and it was a great feeling.

MAC is a remote controlled robot with the ability to see its surroundings and transmit its vision to it's operator. Cameras placed on strategic locations on its body enables the operator to see four different perspectives which enables him to navigate MAC and identify the location of explosives. There are two major parts of the robot; the mobile body, and the robotic arm. The hardest and trickiest part is designing the robotic arm but thanks to the perseverance of Jaylord Jauod, the arm worked.

In my own opinion, as a fabricator of MAC (I did not design anything on MAC but Jaylord is the ultimate designer and fabricator). MAC is just a product of basic engineering knowledge. There is nothing so complicated about it but its impact and signifince is so great which makes it a great robot. With proper funding, laboratory, equipment, knowledge and passion I believe we can still do greater things. MAC is just a beginning of endless possibilities.

As president of our organization, I am now thinking of building another mobile robot platform which can not only do one thing but multiple tasks as well.

Unfortunately, the funding is on us so help us God. Hehehe.

My First Blog Entry For Year 2008

Guess what? It has been one year and one week since my last blog entry. Well, I think I'm really quite busy with life and I don't get the time and passion to blog. However, these past few weeks I'm quite emotional but I just can't express it verbally hence here I am tapping on my iphone screen and letting go a little bit of emotion build-up.

I live a satisfactory life. Everything is fair and sometimes even good. Until.. I fell.. For someone so wrong.. Someone who is already committed and it's hard and painful in my part. Well, that's why I'm so cheesy these days and I don't want to go into details because I don't want to sound cheesy to my readers(if I have one).

But overall I'm doing good.

Just keep reading my future entries and somehow you'll understand.

I'll post pictures of me and my adventures as well as entries about my daily life. Thanks to mobile blogging I can now do it on my cellphone so I hope I'll be able to post everyday.

Perhaps your familiar with this address if you have received a call offering you a part-time job with a salary of Php15K-20K a month. Well, it's not a scam, it's for real. I have been recruited three times and I've turned them down twice. For the last time, I went to their office just to witness their activities inside the company.

The company involved is Pharmanex, and may also be known as Nu Skin. It's a Multi Level Marketing institution. It earns money by recruiting new members to the company and letting them pay a certain amount of money for sample products and for the new recruits' "training". However, Multi Level Marketing has gained a bad image over time for its very high risk of losing money and not gaining anything.

The problem is that the company's recruiting strategy is quite scam-like or very suspicious. They don't tell their recruits right away what they are getting into. Their strategies are full of lies and deception. It's like leading their recruits into a trap. They do this by deceiving their recruits by flattering them, promising of high salary, and they don't even tell their company's name or credentials, all they do is to call you up on the phone and convince you to go to their office and be interviewed for the job and they don't even tell you what's the job until you have gone through their "seminar". Also one of their techniques is to manipulate their recruits on the phone. They tell you things on the phone like "I hope you're a professional and don't cancel meetings on the last minute". They make sure that their recruit would go on the said meeting on time. I think they're just too demanding and annoying because they'll call you as often as possible. I didn't ask for the job, they're just recruiting me and by recruiting me they gain money. That's why they are so eager to recruit people especially students because students tend to be easier to manipulate and they're easily blinded by the "salary" offered(As an undergraduate student, who would not be blinded by an offer of 15K-20K salary, and students tend to be very impulsive on their decisions).

To join them all you have to do is to pay Php 12600 and you will get sample products and your "training". The training is all about how to convince recommended persons to attend their seminar and eventually join the company. I think the training is all about manipulating your target persons in getting them inside the company. All I can say is that their methods are very sly and manipulating. I strongly believe that the company is being fueled by greed. The sad part is most of the people inside that company and keeping that company alive are undergraduate students. These students over time learned the evil ways of the company and seemed to be addicted to the benefits that they get from the company. The students inside that company have learned to be greedy. I tell you, with their ways, it is obvious that greed is what the company promotes within its system and that's bad especially to the young people inside that company. Greed is being inculcated to the young minds inside that company and that's very hard to correct especially when they've already grown up.

In order to gain recruits they let newly accepted "employees" write down a list of persons with their contact numbers. As a part of their training, the employees would call every person on the provided list and recruit those persons. And now they have new recruits. What if the recruit would decline with the offer??? All they do is to ask the declining recruit to write a list of persons whom he recommends for the job. And now they call every person on that list again and say that you have been recommended by your friend and offer you the job that has been turned down by your friend and now they will still have new and more recruits.

Now, who's on that list the new employees have prepared??? It's usually their friends, acquaintances, and relatives. Now that they're employees they should work and serve the company and let the company earn and how would they do that?? By recruiting their friends, acquaintances, and relatives. Come to think of it, you're making money because of your friends, acquaintances, and relatives. I think that's greed. These employees lead their friends in joining the company without telling them any details about what they are getting into. I have been quite disappointed with a friend that recruited me and was working for the company. I asked him how on earth an average student was going to pay the Php12K fee if his parents doesn't allow him to have that amount. He said that one should borrow money from friends in school until it could suffice the 12K. That's a very bad move for a non earning student. He could never pay that 12K debt if he could not recruit enough people for the company. For a starter he only earns a very small percentage of the 12K from his recruits and everything goes to his "senior executives" and to the company, that's why he have to work hard to recruit and convince people.

I really find the company's system to be very greedy.

The offer is really great for an undergraduate student.

However, along comes with this offer is a test of your moral values and ethics.

It is in the discretion of the recruit to join or not. It's just a question of moral values. Because in this job, I believe that you should put your values aside and let greed motivate you.

Desperate "Humor" On Filipino Medical Practitioners

Well, I'm glad many Filipinos world wide reacted to this slur at a recent episode of Desperate Housewives.

I strongly believe that this is an insult to us filipinos especially to our medical practitioners. My mom and dad are both working as dentists and they are considered as medical practitioners, and that's how they send me to a good but expensive school and they are breaking their back in doing so. And here comes that derogatory remark from desperate housewives. Parang minamaliit nila yung mga magulang ko na naghihirap sa pagpapaaral sa amin magkakapatid.

I believe that we filipinos are good medical practitioners. I see that in my parents. I see their passion and excellence for their chosen career.

For the fil-ams who reacted violently to this issue, I'm glad that you have not forgotten your roots. I was touched while reading the newspaper because of the fact that Fil-Ams were reacting violently against the slur. I felt my spine tingle because of the sense of nationalism the Fil-Ams have showed and it is very nice to know that many filipinos world wide still have that sense of nationalism towards our country.

Nationalism is what our country needs right now and all the rest will follow.

My Returning Post

Its been a very long time since I last posted here - about 3 months have passed. I have been very busy with my studies and extracurricular activities that I failed to visit and update my blog. Now, I will do my best to at least update my blog weekly or daily.

Many significant events have happened during the past months - Erap's verdict, the controversial NBN project, destabilization plots - just to name a few. Well, at least, no catastrophic event have occurred during these past rainy months.

However, It is really very sad to know that some people running our government are working for their private interest instead of public service.

How do you eradicate corruption??? Especially in our country who have been suffering from corruption since after the world war II. If only our leaders would do their best in serving our country then the Philippines could have been a better place.

But I also believe that we citizens should also do our part. We should not rely only on our leaders but also with our selves. If we want to improve Philippines then we should start improving ourselves. We have to start in a very small scale then go up to higher scale when we're done on the smaller scale which is improving ourselves.

We have to do it step by step and as a nation.

It's already 1:53AM and yet I'm not yet asleep. I'm having a hard time sleeping because of all the problems that I must face tomorrow - Calculus exam, Lab reports, and reportings. Aside from those things, another issue bothering me right now is the State of the Nation Address that is going to be delivered tomorrow by PGMA. I'm quite curious with what the SONA will be this year.

Being a teenager, I'm not usually interested with such things. We are usually more concerned on activities being a teenager such as playing DOTA, online games, bar hopping, malling, and all other teenage stuff and activities and we tend to spend our time more on our peers or "barkadas". We, the Filipino youth usually don't give a damn to the present situation of our country. I would usually hear from young adults the expression - "wala nang pagasa ang pilipinas, magaabroad na lng ako!(the Philippines doesn't have any hope, I'm just gonna work and live abroad!"). Even with all these mentalities in our society somehow I realized that as a future adult citizen of our nation being a teenager is not a hindrance in becoming a "fully functional" and "beneficial" citizen of the Philippines. We, the Filipino Youth, can do something for our country despite our age and our position. There are a lot of things we could do for our country.(Note: I'm gonna write something about many simple things that we could do)

If we just open our eyes to the reality. Everything you see in this world is superficial. Don't let yourself be blinded by the riches of other nations. Don't let yourself be fooled by what you see on TV. Be critical. Don't be selfish. Observe, see for yourself. There is hope I tell you. If you think there's none then you're only thinking for the benefit of yourself.

I know I could do something for my country. Sharing my thoughts and insights on this blog is just one and it's just a small task and I hope the Filipino Youth could learn from this blog. I'm not only expecting the youth to learn I'm also expecting that everything good here will be inculcated to the young minds that will shape our country's future.
